Mothers Against Murderers was founded in memory of Angela’s nephew, who lost his life
to a senseless act of violence (Torrey Donnell Manuel - 1/1/2003). She also lost nine
other family members to gun violence. Angela has served well over one hundred sixty
families that have lost loved ones to violence in Palm Beach County, Florida.
All of
those victims are members of this organization. She has attented over one hundred fifty
funerals, giving love and support to grieving families; while grieving the loss of her
own family members. She has taken on the task of trying to get our young adults back
on the right track. She takes a group of mothers to speak at the jails, schools, prisons,
juvenile residential facilities and many other places, hoping their story, and her story
will touch the hearts and minds of our young people. She is determined to end the violence
that has taken over our community.
She is also an advocate, fighting for the rights of
our youth. She is a member of The Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth. She served
as a voice for JWLOP and was one of the main voices on that bill, which was fought
through the Supreme Court of the United States in 2009. She received a Distinguished
Victim Service Award for recognition of her outstanding contributions to crime victims.
Angela has dedicated her life to making a difference and being a voice for those who
can no longer speak. She is the recipient of the American Achievement Award from the American Health Association.
MAMA also has a chapter in Broward County, FL.
